"Seeing a room full of people and having to land this audition in one take? It's a skill, but now these kids are asked to make tapes, and I don't know that this is the best way. When directors see the tapes, they don't know the effort that went into making it. How much support did they have? It's a disservice to the next generation of actors."

He argues that the traditional in-person audition process, where actors can receive real-time feedback, is more effective for their development. "The result can't be getting the part," he advised. "You're going to get such a small percentage of parts, even at the top level. I've made hundreds of tapes, and I don't book from tape."
